Recently Frozen secured $1 billion for Disney internationally, Illumination Entertainment has a huge hit with the Despicable Me franchise, and we can’t forget Pixar’s second installment of the Finding Nemo franchise, Finding Dory, coming soon to theatres. Could we be on the verge of an Animation Renaissance? It seems like the sky is the limit with today’s animation technology but, for us Disnerds (and animated movie lovers), nothing can compare to traditional hand-drawn animation.
For your personal enjoyment we have compiled a list of 10 Disney animated films that you forgot you loved. Let’s take a break from the marvels of 3-D and computer-generated animation and remember those beautiful motion pictures that made us fall in love with Disney the first time.
10. The Rescuers (1977)
Why you loved it: Madame Medusa is one Disney’s scariest villains that we often forget about. Come on, she stayed in Devil’s Bayou and she kidnapped a little girl!
9. The Fox and the Hound (1981)
Why you loved it: Be honest, you cry every time you watch Widow Tweed take Tod into the forest.
8. Recess: School’s Out (2001)
Why you loved it: ABC’s 1 Saturday Morning was the reason you woke up before the sun on the weekends as a child. And every school had a kid like T.J. Detweiler.
7. The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride (1998)
Why you loved it: Kovu… Yup, that just about sums it up!
6. The Sword in the Stone (1963)
Why you loved it: ” Higitus Figitus” is a much more efficient way to pack!
5. The Proud Family Movie (2005)
Why you loved it: This was probably one of the best animated series Disney created post-Disney Afternoon era. Plus, the dance off was epic!
4. Oliver & Company (1988)
Why you loved it: You searched all over for a dog who could rock shades like Dodger.
3. Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)
Why you loved it: Legendary story, captivating musical score, and absolutely stunning artwork. Definitely one of Disney’s most underrated films.
2. The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1950)
Why you loved it: “Tally-ho!” Toad’s got motor mania!
1. A Goofy Movie (1995)
Why you loved it: The bonding between father and son was so beautiful. We schemed with our best friend during morning assembly, we fell in love with Roxanne, we traveled cross-country to see a concert, and then we stepped on stage to dance with Powerline. #StoryofourLife
