“Hang on to your hats and glasses! This here is the wildest ride in the wilderness!”
For those who do not know, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (BTMR) was closed for about 18 months for a major refurbishment at Disneyland Resort. For the fans, it was a very frustrating time. The reopening date moved around constantly. Emotions were going haywire. Disney fans were at the gates of the closed off ride with puppy dog eyes. Sooner or later, I thought there was going to be protests!
Disneyland finally released the opening date for BTMR (for real this time!) as March 17, 2014. Word spread like wildfire and the once loved ride became more popular than before. Big Thunder was back with a boom!–literally!
The ride had a decent makeover. New tracks were installed and the trains were repainted and fixed. The town sequence at the end of the ride has been refurbished as well. And when it gets dark, the lighting of BTMR looks spectacular and epic!
The major change that has everyone talking is something new. For those familiar with the ride, remember the part when the rocks look like they are going to fall? Well, that is gone! It has been replaced with something way cooler, in my opinion. When you arrive at that point, you see dynamites getting ready to explode. Upon arriving to the top, there is a huge explosion and smoke appears with mist. It is awesome! The special effects that have taken place definitely adds to the thrill. And the new tracks gives for a much smoother ride!
If you have not been on it since it’s reopening, I highly recommend going on it! It is a must. Besides, it’s the wildest ride of the wilderness!
